The Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the most legendary offshore races in the world, renowned for its scale, history, and demanding course. Considered a bucket-list challenge for sailors everywhere, it sits alongside the Rolex Sydney Hobart and the Rolex Middle Sea Race as one of the three great ocean classics.
The race covers nearly 700 nautical miles, beginning in Cowes on the Isle of Wight before heading west through the Solent, down the English Channel, and across the Irish Sea to round the iconic Fastnet Rock. From there, the fleet races back across the Channel to finish in Cherbourg, France. Changing tides, shifting weather, and the sheer length of the course make it an ultimate test of skill, endurance, and teamwork.
Since the first edition in 1925, when just seven yachts took part, the Fastnet has grown into the world’s biggest offshore race, attracting more than 450 entries from across the globe. From amateur sailors chasing a lifelong dream to professional crews on cutting-edge racing yachts, the event brings together every corner of the sailing world in one epic contest.
To take part in the Rolex Fastnet Race, crews must complete at least 300 nautical miles of racing within the 12 months prior to the start. At Magic Time Yachting, we welcome sailors of all experience levels. Our training weekends and participation in RORC cross-Channel races provide the perfect opportunity to build miles, practise manoeuvres, and get fully prepared for this legendary offshore challenge.
Magic Time was awarded “The Seamanship Team Trophy” for attending a man overboard mayday call, and co-ordinated a major air and sea rescue mission in The Irish Sea. A 72-year-old man was air-lifted to safety and Magic Time were commended for their electronics and radio work, being the only boat able to pick up the emergency signals.
"What a race! The 2025 Fastnet was everything we expected — tough, wild, and completely unforgettable in more ways than one ! I’m so glad we took it on together along with our fellow crew members.
There were some serious challenges out there, but your calm focus and solid skippering made all the difference. We worked hard, laughed together as a crew, and made it through in one piece.
Thanks for the adventure, the grit, and the good company. Let’s raise a glass to an epic race — and start planning for our future adventures both now & beyond.”
